Bhavik Haria on BBC One: Celebrating Diwali and Bhajans

I am beyond thrilled to share a recent milestone in my musical journey. On Sunday, 27th October 2024, I had the incredible honour of performing on BBC One’s Sunday Morning Live show! During the programme, I performed “Rising Sun” from my latest album, Sama – my first-ever original piece. “Rising Sun” captures the theme of new beginnings, making it a perfect fit for Diwali as it celebrates the light of a new day. I also had the chance to speak about the significance of Bhajans, Diwali, and how these traditions have deeply shaped my life and music. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share my music on such a wide platform to see it reaching new hearts and ears.

I shared my mission to #KeepBhajansAlive

In my segment, I shared my mission behind #KeepBhajansAlive, an initiative aimed at preserving and revitalising traditional devotional music. To me, Bhajans are far more than music; their history and origins are deeply spiritual and uplifting. The word “Bhajan” comes from Sanskrit, meaning “to share” or “to worship,”. Bhajans are usually sung in groups with repetitive words, encouraging unity and connection. The beauty of this style of music is that you don’t need to understand the language to feel the vibrations and connect with it. Bhajans are my go-to for any mood or occasion, whether to celebrate, reflect, or remember.

Losing Bhajans would be like losing Christmas carols

Yet, over time, the appeal of Bhajans has faded. Losing Bhajans would be like losing Christmas carols; we would lose a piece of cultural history that brings people together. Through #KeepBhajansAlive, I blend traditional Bhajans with modern instruments like the saxophone and drums to appeal to all generations while honouring the music’s cultural heritage. The response has been incredible – people of all ages are connecting with Bhajans, reminiscing about family memories, and sharing these songs with loved ones. There’s even been a generational shift – the younger audience is now bringing their grandparents to our events, creating a beautiful, full-circle moment for the tradition.

Reflecting on this journey, I know my Bapuji would be so proud. He introduced me to Bhajans, and I spent countless hours by his side at Bhajan events as a child. Those moments shaped my love for this music and laid the foundation for everything I do today. To go from those cherished memories to performing my own music on national television feels both humbling and encouraging. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share these traditions with a wider audience and to keep this heritage alive for future generations.

With Diwali approaching, this BBC appearance feels even more meaningful. Diwali is a time to gather with family and friends, enjoy festive food, decorate our homes with light, and celebrate community. It brings the same warmth that Bhajans inspire, reminding us all to treasure these connections.

Thank you to everyone who tuned in or sent kind messages of support. If you missed it, you can watch the full feature on my YouTube channel and share in this special moment with me.

“Sama” Tour: A Magical Journey of Music and Connection

The “Sama” tour has come to a close, leaving a trail of vibrant memories and a renewed appreciation for the power of music. From Birmingham to Manchester, and finally ending in my hometown, London, the entire album launch and tour experience has been nothing short of incredible.

The response to the album and tour exceeded all expectations. This time around, we had screens displaying lyrics and translations at every concert, allowing the audience to not only sing along but also delve into the heart of the music and connect with the deeper meanings woven into each song from the new album.

The magic of music truly comes alive during a live performance. Seeing the audience clapping and singing along to each song, created an unforgettable vibe at each concert. It was truly a collective experience, a beautiful symphony of voices and emotions.

The most heartwarming aspect of the tour has been the personal connections forged through the music. I’ve been overwhelmed by messages expressing how each song resonated with them on a personal level, forging their own unique connection to the music. Even those who wouldn’t normally consider themselves Bhajan or devotional music enthusiasts have been touched by the album’s magic, discovering a love for this rich musical tradition.

The “Sama” tour is just the first ripple in a larger movement. I aim to bring Bhajan concerts to the forefront of the music scene, driving my mission to #KeepBhajansAlive. I am so grateful to everyone who has joined me on this journey so far and I look forward to creating more music that connects and inspires.

A huge shoutout goes to KEF for providing the incredible Blade Series speakers. Their crystal-clear sound truly brought the music to life, allowing our guests to fully immerse themselves in the world of “Sama.”

Mahavir Jayanti Reception at 10 Downing Street

Honoured to have attended the first-ever Mahavir Jayanti Reception at No. 10 Downing Street, held to celebrate the birth of Lord Mahavir, the 24th and final Tirthankara (spiritual leader) of Jainism. This historic event marked a significant moment for the Jain community in the UK, showcasing their growing presence and contributions to British society.

Hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Rt Hon Oliver Dowden MP, Lord Dolar and Ameet Jogia., the reception brought together prominent figures and members of the Jain community.

The reception concluded with a group recitation of the Navkar Mantra, a beautiful Jain prayer, led by Jayeshbhai, Minister of Jain Religion of Oshwal Association of the UK.

Attending this event was a truly inspiring experience, not only because it celebrated Jain culture and acknowledged the community’s contributions to the UK, but also because it served as a reminder of the importance of Jain values and their positive impact on society.

In the spirit of sharing Jainism’s deeper beauty, I delved deeper during August 2022’s Paryushan festival. Over eight days of live bhakti sessions, I explored various Jain themes and Stavans.

This ultimately sparked the creation of my 2023 album, “Purity.” a collection of Jain Stavans, features captivating music and meaningful lyrics, aiming to spread the message of peace and compassion throughout the world. We wanted everyone to experience these ancient Jain Stavans, so we released lyric videos and translated social media content. Now, people from all backgrounds can sing along and discover the beautiful messages within.

Want to experience the uplifting power of Jain Stavans? Head over to my YouTube channel and revisit the inspiring live sessions from the 2022 Paryushan festival. Additionally, you can find the “Purity” album on all major streaming platforms
